Hewitt, M.D., medical director of ECMC's Immunodeficiency Services, has made extraordinary strides as a scientist and physician researching HIV and working with HIV infected patients. He not only founded AIDS Community Services of WNY, but he also helped raise $1.8 million for the support of infectious disease research. |

Diversity Award winner Brenda McDuffie, president and CEO of Buffalo Urban League, Inc. (BUL), has impacted the lives of thousands of individuals as a result of her work and leadership over the agency's staff. Since coming to BUL, there has been a 254% budget increase and the agency was able to double the number of programs it supports.

Inclusion Award
Christopher L. Jacobs
Inclusion Award winner Christopher L. Jacobs, president of Avalon Development, founded the BISON (Buffalo Inner-city Scholarship Opportunity Network) Scholarship Fund for low-income children living in Buffalo when he was just 27. It has since been nationally recognized as one of the first and most successful voucher programs in the country. He was also instrumental in starting the South Buffalo Charter School and currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Openness to Change Award
Gary R. Stillman
Openness to Change Award winner Gary R. Stillman, director of the Enterprise Charter School, spearheaded the effort to establish a district authorized, yet independent charter school - the first of its kind in the state. Since Enterprise Charter School opened in 2003, it has doubled the reading fluency of its students, reduced the length of time troubled children are out of school due to suspension, and established a comprehensive resource center to support families. |
