Director of DEIB and Programs

 

The Position

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) and Programs has primary responsibility for providing strategic leadership and administrative oversight for researching, developing, implementing and maintaining a range of successful practices for supporting Leadership Buffalo’s programming.   The Director will use evidence-based strategies to assist the organization in developing efforts in creating and sustaining a culture that embraces and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in their broadest meanings. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of long-term strategies and collaborations designed to enhance Leadership Buffalo as an organization, to increase recruitment in diverse populations, retention of diverse alumni, increase community trainings and workshops.

 

In this position, the director will be knowledgeable about diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as it relates to the entire community given the fact that Leadership Buffalo’s participants range from a wide variety of backgrounds, occupations, ages, and positions. 

 

This is a newly created position at Leadership Buffalo and will   report directly to the CEO.

Key Duties and Responsibilities/DEIB

  • Develop and implement DEIB strategies that directly impact our programming.
  • Develop and implement DEIB strategies and metrics around our recruitment efforts and the representation of each program
  • Develop training programs in DEBI that can be offered to the community and Leadership Buffalo’s partners.
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to the program managers, ensuring they are supporting DEIB efforts in their programs.   
  • Develop and conduct annual training for the staff and Board of Directors. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications department to plan, edit, and write content for external communication mediums, such as the social media, our bi-annual magazine, weekly newsletter, blogs, and marketing materials.  
  • Demonstrate a commitment to valuing diversity, contributing to an inclusive working, and learning environment. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities/Programs

  • Program design and implementation for all day session
  • Conduct day session planning team meetings
  • Oversee logistics for day sessions.
  • Coordinate logistics and facilitate the opening and closing program retreats.
  • Develop leadership development training for RL and CE.
  • Conduct and analyze program surveys and membership surveys, to be utilized for program and process improvement.
  • Facilitation of in-person monthly sessions.

 

 

 

In addition to the above, support with DEIB for the following programs would be expected as needed:

  • Leadership Buffalo Essentials (LBE)
  • Youth Leadership (YL)
  • Recruitment 
  • Town Halls/Connecting Conversations
  • Work collaboratively with LB staff on all aspects of organization and act as key staff person for programs in absence of CEO

 

 

Our ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree with five or more years’ experience in a similar or relevant role.    We also need an individual with outstanding public speaking skills, leadership qualities, and administrative capabilities.   Must be team oriented with the ability to multitask on many different projects and be highly self-motivated.   The position is full time with occasional early morning, evening, and some weekend hours required.
